Women's Soccer Rolls to 7-0 Win at Delaware State
FREDERICA, Del. – The offense was running on all cylinders for Hartford women's soccer in its 2018 season opener on Thursday, as the Hawks rolled to a 7-0 win at Delaware State. Rookie Taylor Brown netted the go-ahead tally in the 31st minute before the Hawks exploded for six more goals in the second half — including a pair from sophomore Gabriela Gamory — to run away with the victory. Hartford moves to 1-0 for the fourth time in five seasons while the Hornets dip to 0-1 on the young season. HARTFORD 7, DELAWARE STATE 0
Taking a 1-0 lead into the halftime break, the Hawks quadrupled their lead midway through the second half. Junior Bridgette Alexander (60'), senior Ashley Claud (62') and junior transfer Samantha Nelbach (69') each found the back of the net within a 10-minute stretch to quickly push the lead to 4-0.
Late in the match, Hartford tacked on three more scores within a span of four minutes to go up by seven with less than five minutes remaining. Gamory and sophomore Alex Hoffman each delivered goals 15 seconds apart at 81:46 and 82:01 before Gamory capped off the scoring with her second tally of the afternoon.
Six different players contributed to Hartford's seven goals, while 10 Hawks recorded at least one point.
Gamory led all scorers with a career-high four points, while Hoffman and Nelbach were major contributors in their Hartford debuts with three points apiece.
Sophomore Maia Perez made one save on Delaware State's lone shot attempt to earn her fourth career shutout victory.
Scoring the largest win in program history since defeating Fordham, 8-0, on Sept. 1, 2002, Hartford improves to 3-0 against Delaware State.
