Monroe Mustangs Women’s Basketball Opens National Title IX Holiday Invitational with Victory over CC
WASHINGTON D.C., December 27, 2018 – The Monroe College Mustangs women's basketball team opened their first-ever appearance at the National Title IX Holiday Invitational with a 67-60 victory over CCBC-Catonsville Thursday afternoon at the D.C. Armory. The Mustangs improve to 10-3 on the season with the win, while the Cardinals drop to 7-6 overall. Phyness Baldwin filled up the stat sheet for the Mustangs in the win. She paced the team with 14 points, eight steals and six assists, adding five rebounds and a blocked shot as well. Courtney Iraboradded 13 points and five boards. Shanice Graves contributed 10 points, seven steals and seven rebounds, while Devon Adams finished with 10 points and nine rebounds. Aneisha Lyons had seven points, a team-high 12 rebounds and four assists, while Destiny Jennings added 11 boards off the bench. The Mustangs will now take on the winner of Harford Community College and Nassau Community College tomorrow, Dec. 28, at 2:30 p.m. at the D.C. Armory. ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 27 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
