Advancing: Bulldogs Knock Off Emmanuel, 70-57, for First NCAA Win in Program History

NCAA TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND Northampton, MA----For the first time in program history and the first CUNYAC school to win an NCAA Tournament game since the 2014-15 Baruch squad, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team will be advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament with Friday's First Round improve to victory over Emmanuel (MA), 70-57. The Bulldogs improve to 22-3 overall with the postseason win while the Saints end their season with a 25-2 mark. Brooklyn will play in the Round of 32 on Saturday at 6pm against the winner of Regional host, Smith College.

CUNYAC two-time Player of the Year, Chanel Jemmott, was tremendous all evening finishing 30 points, 22 rebounds, and three steals.

A chess match through the majority of the first half, the Bulldogs took the lead for good thanks to a 7-0 run for a 37-30 halftime advantage. The key run was sparked by a made three drained by junior guard, Ericka James, who finished with five makes from beyond the arc for the contest. The sharpshooter would finish with 17 points for the game.

With plenty of experience in the NCAA Tournament, the Saints wouldn't go away easily, cutting the Bulldog lead to 53-51 with 8:45 remaining in regulation. However, the Bulldogs responded with a devastating 10-0 run capped at the 5:29 mark on a made three from the top of the key drained by Jemmott. Brooklyn would have a response to every Emmanuel bucket from that point on.

Both teams pressed on the defensive end for most of the game with fast-past action throughout. BC would finish with 16 steals for the game led by junior guard Gianna Gotti's game-high eight steals. She was just as effective on the offensive end adding 15 points and five assists to her standout night.

Emmanuel was led by Olivia Matela's team-high 18 points.
