Mustangs Hit More Qualifying Standards as No. 7 Monroe Mustangs Women’s Track and Field Competes at


STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., February 19, 2022 – The No. 7-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's track and field team competed in its first of two meets this weekend in Friday's 2022 Club Indoor Championships at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, taking the opportunity to achieve more qualifying standards for the 2022 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the final weekend of competition before nationals.

Aaliyah Moore competed in the 400-meter dash for the first time this season on Friday, and earned qualification for the 2022 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the event. She clocked in at 57.21 seconds, taking second place overall on the evening. Chinenye Onuorah was right behind her in the race, finishing in 57.88 to take third.

Moore later did more than just qualify for the 600-meter run, once again her first attempt at the event this season. She finished with a time of 1:32.93, defeating the qualifying standard by more than seven seconds and setting a new Monroe College record in the event. Her time surpasses that of recent alumna Joanna Archer, who set the standard of 1:34.02 back in 2019. Farrah Miller was right behind Miller in the race with a time of 1:34.20, improving her qualifying time in the event by 2.74 seconds.

Tshwanelo Maruping competed in the mixed 800-meter run on Friday, her first try at the 800m this season. She beat the qualifying standard in the event by more than seven seconds after finishing in 2:17.31. Miller later ran in a mixed mile run. She clocked in at 5:33.49.

Maruping then took her first crack at the 5,000-meter run on Friday. She finished the race in 18:12.88, more than a minute faster than the NJCAA qualifying mark.


Onuorah set a season-best time in the 200-meter dash on Friday, clocking in at 25.55 seconds.

The Mustangs are set to compete on Saturday, Feb. 19, in the West Point Tune-Up, hosted by Army West Point at Gillis Field House. The meet is set to begin at 9 a.m.
