No. 12 Monroe Mustangs Women’s Track and Field Earns Four Wins Across Two Meets as Mustangs Compete
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., April 9, 2022 – The No. 12-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's track and field team split four victories across two different meets on Saturday, as the Mustangs competed in both North Carolina A&T State University's Aggie Invitational and Southern Connecticut State University's Wilton Wright Invite.
AGGIE INVITATIONAL (NORTH CAROLINA A&T)
Aaliyah Moore got one of the Mustangs' victories on Saturday, winning the 1,500-meter run in North Carolina. She finished the race in 4:35.00, a new personal-best for her and now the No. 1 time in the event in the NJCAA this season. Moore also qualifies for the 1500m at the 2022 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Tshwanelo Maruping also ran the 1500m on Saturday, finishing in 4:45.00 to also earn herself a qualifying time for the NJCAA Championships.
Maruping also had an impressive outing in the 5,000-meter run on Saturday. She took first place in the race, clocking in at 17:12.88 to earn herself another qualification for the NJCAA Championships.
WILTON WRIGHT INVITE (SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE)
Kristin Stickdorn and Chinenye Onuorah grabbed two more wins for the Mustangs out in Connecticut on Saturday. Stickdorn took first place overall in the women's hammer throw with a throw of 53.66 meters. This improves her qualifying mark for the NJCAA Championships. Gabrielle Riley also competed in the hammer throw, making a best throw of 37.09 meters.
Stickdorn also competed in Saturday's discus finals. She took third place overall with a throw of 40.85 meters in the event.
Onuorah ran in both the 400-meter dash and 200-meter dash on Saturday. Onuorah won the 400m after clocking in at 58.06 seconds. She crossed the line in the 200m in 26.44 seconds.
Next up for the Mustangs is a two-day meet in New Jersey next weekend, when they compete at the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton University. Day 1 of the Larry Ellis Invite is Friday, April 15.
